Ben Nevis is an international Scottish icon; a landmark recognised beyond our shores. As the highest mountain in the British Isles it has economic and reputational value on a national scale, sitting at the heart of the Outdoor Capital of the United Kingdom. More profoundly, it has deep cultural and environmental significance. The encompassing mountain landscape of Glen Nevis constitutes one of Scotland’s most accessible and cherished National Scenic Areas.
MAKE A DIFFERENCEEach year 130,000 climb Ben Nevis and around 200,000 people visit Glen Nevis. We all have an impact on the paths, the roads and the environment. Paths need to be repaired, litter needs collected, trees need planted and wild life needs monitored.
If we each gave just £1 or £2 all this vital work could be delivered. However, our tradition of free access to wild places makes it impossible to make this compulsory. So this is an opportunity to be part of a unique experience give something back to the area we love. |
The Nevis Fund is a one stop shop for all donations for the conservation and improvement of the natural and cultural heritage of the Nevis Management Area for the local community and visitors to the area to enjoy. The Nevis Fund will have four key aims;
- Maintain and improve footpaths to support and encourage sustainable access.
- Protect and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of the area.
- Support community engagement, education and volunteering.
- Promote leave no trace philosophy and thoughtful use of the area.

What's involved?Reaching the highest point in the UK is no mean feat, and to do it at night is even more of a challenge. This is why you will be accompanied by an experienced Mountain Leader all the way, with a maximum ratio of 1:10.
You should expect eight hours of walking on rough ground so some training beforehand will prepare you well. Head torches are essential, but we will also light the way with light installations, reflectors and anything else we can get our hands on to make Ben Nevis glow! |
